August // Psoriasis Awareness & My Birthday

Before we get into the "meat" of this blog post, I just wanted to apologize for my absence since April. A lot has happened like the ending of another semester, a little 3-week vacation, and a whole slew of other things. But I fell like this is the perfect time to return to the blog since it is the beginning of a new month.

August represents a lot of things for a lot of people. It's back-to-school season for many of us, including myself. It is also my birth month! On the 29th, I will be turning 20 which, if I'm being honest, completely scares me! Turning 20 just reminds me that I've got even less time to get my life together. Yes, I know there is not real timeline in life that must be followed but getting older seems to add to the pressure of life. Sometimes, I catch myself feeling like I am not ready for this next chapter in my life but I just have to deal with it and roll with the punches.

August is also National Psoriasis Awareness Month. Psoriasis has been a major part of my life for about 6-7 years and it seems to be fitting to talk about it. On the 2nd, I began sharing about Psoriasis on my Instagram stories (which I love by the way!). So far, I've shared facts about the disease and a little bit about my first outbreak. I love how there are so many platforms for people to share things and raise awareness about various topics. I hope to continue the talk about psoriasis for those like me who sometimes feel like there's no one to turn to or to talk to. I hope to get the conversation going about the illness amongst my friends, family, and followers and eventually, at the end of the month, possibly on my birthday, I hope to put out a video talking about my experience in further detail as well as answer questions that many people may have about psoriasis.

Having had psoriasis for so long, I feel like it's only fitting for me to talk about it. There's no hiding it or avoiding it in conversations and interactions so why not embrace it?

Anyway, this post is long enough. I hope that you can follow me as I continue raising awareness about Psoriasis. If you'd like to see my daily posts, you can check out my Instagram stories @ tammyleonguerrero. Happy August!
